Bottle sterilization

I bought a bottle that is made of some sort of pottery or ceramic that previously held alcohol in it, at a garage sale last year.

It's decorative and I want to use it to store and serve maple syrup so I have to sterilize it, and would like to know how that should be done.

Any suggestion would be great, and thanks in advance.
