It's not distressing me (so much), but rather, I need to distress it. Not really my forte, I'm more the refinishing to its former glory/or better type, but I recently bought a barrister's cabinet that I don't want to put that much work into. It has what looks to be an oil based paint, already scuffed a bit, crackly in places and the back had to be replaced, as it was ply, horribly papered and splitting. So that needs to be painted anyhow. I googled around a bit and saw various tutorials on aging or distressing furniture, but that was mostly starting from scratch. I'm considering perhaps using a gray paint over the black in spots, like pickling maybe, but I'm a little at a loss. I want it to be more industrial than shabby. Anyone have any experience doing this? Pictures would be great too. Here are some of the piece.
